Cymbeline is listed as one of Shakespeare’s tragedies although some think it to be one of his romances as it explores the familiar themes of jealousy, adultery, innocence, and vengeance.  Cymbeline is the King of Britain who, twenty years prior to the play’s setting, wrongly banishes one of his Lords, Belarius, who in turn kidnaps the King’s sons to prevent him having heirs to his throne. The King also banishes one of his subjects, Posthumous, for secretly marrying his daughter Imogen, and the Roman army descends on Britain. By the end of the play there is peace; these strands are happily resolved ably aided by Ghizela Rowe’s reading.

Author Bio: William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare (1564–1616), English poet and dramatist of the Elizabethan and early Jacobean period, is the most widely known author in all of English literature and often considered the greatest. He was an active member of a theater company for at least twenty years, during which time he wrote many great plays. Plays were not prized as literature at the time and Shakespeare was not widely read until the middle of the eighteenth century, when a great upsurge of interest in his works began that continues today.
