As Shakespeare so keenly wrote, "if music be the food of love, play on." And if music is the food, then poetry is the wine. In this volume of classic love poetry, the choice of words and rhythms makes us think more carefully about the meaning of language and its value to us. They become intoxicating in a way. Poems are a wonderful way to express what we feel for a very special someone, and we present here some very special poems indeed.

Rupert Brooke (1887-1915) was an English poet popular in both literary and political circles. Brooke was educated at the Rugby school and went on to King’s College at Cambridge University, where he socialized in intellectual crowds with Virginia Woolf, John Maynard Keynes, W. B. Yeats, and the Bloomsbury writers. His later verse is considered some of the most important literary expressions of the First World War.

Author Bio: Christopher Marlowe

Christopher Marlowe (1564-1593) was a playwright, poet, and, famously, a contemporary of and influence on the great bard Shakespeare. Though he died before his thirtieth birthday and his career lasted only 6 years, he nonetheless made a lasting impression on literary history with his works such as The Tragicall History of Doctor Faustus, Tamburlaine the Great, and The Jew of Malta.

Author Bio: Wilfred Owen

Wilfred Owen (1893–1918) was an English poet and soldier, one of the leading poets of the First World War. His shocking, realistic war poetry on the horrors of trenches and gas warfare stood in stark contrast both to the public perception of war at the time and to patriotic verse written by earlier war poets. He was killed in action at age twenty-five, just one week before the armistice, and most of his poems were published posthumously. In November 1985, he was one of sixteen poets of the Great War commemorated on a slate stone unveiled in Westminster Abbey‘s Poet’s Corner. His best-known works include “Dulce et Decorum Est,” “Insensibility,” “Anthem for Doomed Youth,” “Futility,” and “Strange Meeting.”
