Author Bio: R. A. Torrey

R. A. Torrey (1856–1928) is considered one of the greatest evangelists of modern times. He was ordained to the Congregational ministry in 1878 and became superintendent of the Congregational City Missionary Society of Minneapolis. He had a long association with D. L. Moody and was the first superintendent of the Moody Bible Institute. Under his direction, Moody Institute became an example for Bible institutes around the world to follow. He spent two years in worldwide revival campaigns, winning thousands of souls to Jesus Christ, and he continued worldwide crusades for another fifteen years while he served as the dean of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles and pastored the Church of the Open Door. He wrote numerous devotional and theological books, including What the Bible Teaches, How to Work for Christ, and The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit.
