F. N. Monjo (1924–1978) won the National Book Award for Poor Richard in France but is perhaps best remembered for his book The Drinking Gourd. He also wrote two other popular I Can Read Books: Indian Summer, illustrated by Anita Lobel, and The One Bad Thing About Father, illustrated by Rocco Negri.
