Editorial Reviews

Editorial Reviews

“He’s been called a great American patriot and the spawn of the devil, but whatever your views on Dick Cheney, you can’t ignore the influence this former vice president, US senator, and Republican administration official has had on government policy and world affairs. In this personal and political memoir, this ever-outspoken politician and statesman delivers candid opinions on Iraq, the economy, and other political controversies.”  Barnes & Noble, editorial review
“George W. Bush’s vice president speaks…The author opens with the outrage of 9/11, in which one thought was foremost on his mind, apart from clearing the sky of planes: namely, ‘guaranteeing the continuity of a functioning United States government’…Cheney’s take on the world is clinical and even scholarly…He is methodical but selective, as when he carefully accounts for his holdings in a certain corporation at the time of his vice presidency…The underlying point of the book is that Bush/Cheney were right in invading Iraq and waterboarding prisoners. Let the reader be the judge--until, that is, history decides on the matter.” Kirkus Reviews
“The more ill and more isolated Cheney became in the Bush administration, the more antithetical he seems to his earlier more robust and upbeat self, and the more we should admire him—in the same fashion we concede respect to the antiheroes of classical Western films, who accept that the help that community needs in extremis will destroy the rare person who must deliver it.”  Victor Davis Hanson, military historian
