"Unparalleled in evoking the gritty reality of the Old West" (Shootist), Johnny D. Boggs mixes adventure and realism with a torrid storytelling style all his own. In The Killing Shot, Deputy U.S. Marshal Reilly McGilvern is hauling criminals to Yuma when his prison wagon is attacked, and McGilvern is left locked inside to die. When another outlaw gang comes upon the scene, McGilvern thinks he's lived to see another day-but his problems are just beginning.

Editorial Reviews

Editorial Reviews

The Killing Shot is wonderful…It has a great first sentence typical of Johnny’s style. ‘That morning found him bleeding more than usual.’” David Morrell, New York Times bestselling author of Scavenger
The Killing Shot is a Western in the classic sense, full of living, breathing characters and boasting a story that never sags. If you’re tired of watching John Ford and Quentin Tarantino films on Netflix, pick up this book.” Tucson Weekly

Johnny D. Boggs has worked cattle, been bucked off horses (breaking two ribs last time), shot rapids in a canoe, hiked across mountains and deserts, traipsed around ghost towns, and spent hours poring over microfilm in library archives—all in the name of finding a good story. He has won his eighth Spur Award, becoming the all-time leader in Western Writers of America’s sixty-six-year history. He has been called by Booklist magazine “among the best Western writers at work today.” He also writes for numerous magazines, including True West, Wild West, Boys’ Life, and Western Art & Architecture, speaks and lectures often, studies old Western and film noir movies, and finds time to coach Little League.
